NEW CEO APPOINTED TO SCREEN NSW

30-Jan-2012

Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Hospitality, Racing and the Arts, George Souris, today announced the appointment of Maureen Barron AM as the new Chief Executive of Screen NSW.

Mr Souris said Ms Barron has a formidable depth of experience in the screen industry and a proven track record of success.

“Screen NSW promotes and supports our screen industry to provide social, cultural and economic benefits to our State and make NSW Australia’s premier film location,” Mr Souris said.

“Maureen has a career history spanning more than 30 years - the bulk of which she has spent in the screen industry as a lawyer, business manager, general manager and CEO.

“For the past two and a half years she has held the position of CEO of Screen Queensland where she has overseen a significant increase in production share.

“Maureen has also served as Chair of the Australian Film Commission, Vice President of the Screen Producers’ Association of Australia and General Manager, Corporate of Australia’s largest independent television production group, Southern Star.

“Her contribution to the film and television industry was recognised by an Order of Australia in 2010.

“With Sydney being her hometown, I am confident Maureen will be a passionate and successful advocate for the screen industry in NSW.”
Screen NSW Chair Helen Wright welcomed Ms Barron’s appointment.

“Maureen brings wonderful skills and experience to Screen NSW to take it forward in the Government’s support of a dynamic and sustainable industry,” Ms Wright said.

Ms Barron’s appointment follows the resignation of former Screen NSW Chief Executive Tania Chambers for family reasons.

“I sincerely thank Tania for her dedication and commitment during her five years at the helm of Screen NSW. She was a key leader in driving the resurgence of screen production in our State,” Ms Souris said.

“I congratulate Maureen on her appointment and wish her every success when she takes up her new role on February 27.”
