2017 Real Film Festival

Friday, 27 – Sunday, 29 October 2017

The Real Film Festival is a three-day community, arts and industry event showcasing documentaries, independent feature and short films based on true stories. The program comprises of film screenings, workshops, panel discussions, networking events and film competitions for filmmakers of all ages and experience.

The weekend will unfold with a variety of feature length and short film screenings taking place at iconic venues across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, including a free outdoor cinema – perfect for the whole family. We have selected an incredible range of films to show you this year as we celebrate real people, real places and real stories.

The three-day program will inspire audiences and filmmakers alike, giving them the opportunity to watch, learn, create and connect by attending any number of our exciting events.

This year we are holding 14 industry development workshops and masterclasses, which will give budding filmmakers the opportunity to learn from some of the industry’s most experienced practitioners on topics like how to make and market short films, acting, using YouTube to build your brand, game development, editing documentaries and more. Festival-goers will also be given the chance to ask questions and gain first-hand experience from the filmmakers at our Q&A sessions.
